Cellar Notes
It's January and I'm already waiting for spring. Last year Frank Palagyi and Kim joined me in the cellar. The cellar never looked so good. 2009 was a tough year for us in the vineyards. Spring frost killed off 70% of the vintage. Then fall frost shortened the hang time of the fruit. The Pinot Noir we ended up with had way too much acid, so we decided to press it out after only 6 hours on the skins and we plan to make a sparkling wine out of it. I think you are going to love it.
The 2009 Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon from Tim Frania's vineyards are going to be something special. We only ended up with enough for 300 gal. We blended both of them together and put it into new Hungarian oak. The wine has a ton of tannin and fruit. All the whites wines look very nice.
Lastly, 2009 will see a return of Sweet Genevieve our Vidal Blanc Ice Wine. We harvested Ice Wine in early December which should make it young and bright in character. The great news is our 2008 reds and whites look great and we are starting the bottling in February.
